Are personalized skin care routines the future of beauty? We here at Atolla think so, and here’s why.
If you’re new to the concept of a personalized skin care routine, we’re glad to have you here!
Here at Atolla, we’ve developed an entire company around what we believe is the future of beauty: creating a skin care routine on demand for your uniquely beautiful skin, and the unique skin concerns that come with it.
The days of going through trial and error to find your best-fit skincare routine are long gone, and with it, all of the waste and harm it was doing to both your wallet and the planet.
Interested in knowing more about how you can have your own personalized skin routine created just for you, and why we are so invested in it? You’ve come to the right place.
One Size Doesn’t Fit All
Think back to the last time that you tried on something that said it was “one size fits all.” Maybe it was a shirt or a pair of gloves. How well did you feel like it fit you? Likely it was either too big or too small, or just didn’t seem like it was really your size.
In fact, the one size fits all model has changed over the last few years, and many companies prefer to refer to it instead as “one size fits most.” But still, this leaves some people out at the end of the day.
At Atolla, we believe that the old model of one size fits all skin care products really doesn’t fit anyone at all, especially when it comes to finding the perfect skin-care regimen. When you have to choose a single product that is meant to work for hundreds of thousands of people, where does that put you? Not in the center, that’s for sure.
There’s a reason that it’s referred to as being the “mass skin care model.” When you have to head to the store on your own, and choose a random product off the shelf that sounds the most like your skin, you’re rolling the dice.
Sometimes you luck out and find a great product that works for cleansing your “combination skin,” but far more often, you end up with something subpar that may leave you worse off than you started.
A lot of that is because of the focus on identifying you as one of just four “skin types” — “normal,” “oily,” “dry,” or “combination.” You have to make that choice for yourself, based on online quizzes paired with some educated guessing and influencer-backed product recommendations, which can get incredibly frustrating and confusing.
Buying over-the-counter products like that requires that you essentially be your own dermatologist or skin expert, and getting it wrong can get expensive and can even worsen existing skin issues.
Not only is everyone’s skin different, but our skin can also need different things as factors in our lives change. Is your skin the same in the heat of the summer as it is during the cold of the winter? Is it the same now as it was a year ago? We’re willing to guess that the answer is no.
Our skin is adaptive, which is what makes it such an amazing, powerful organ; as we grow and change, so does our skin, which is what makes personalized skin care routines so amazing.
Personalized Skin Care Routines Put Ingredients in the Spotlight
Mass produced skin care lines were designed to be made quickly and last for a long time on the shelf — that means that using fresh ingredients, or creating products on demand, just wasn’t all that important.
However, when it comes to personalized skin care routines, we at Atolla focus on using ingredients that we truly believe in. That means fresh, vegan, cruelty-free, and no added fragrance formulas.
Each of our custom formulas comes in a one-month supply so that we can get them to you quickly without all excessive preservatives that can dilute formula efficacy for products that have to sit on a shelf.
In addition to being freshly made, we use only the highest-quality ingredients that are both backed by clinical studies and hand-selected by our dermatologist co-founder. That means we’re not formulating our products around ingredients that have a lot of hype but not a lot of evidence to back it up.
We believe in our ingredients, because we want you to also.
We also believe in being as transparent as possible about our ingredients. Each ingredient that goes into our formulas has its own information sheet, which includes not only what it is and how it works, but where it comes from and what its typical strength is.
You deserve to see exactly what you’re getting, and you can finally get a little more context on the most popular skincare ingredients from vitamin C to hyaluronic acid to antioxidants and if they’re a good fit for your skin.
Personalized Skin Care Routines Waste Less
All of that waste and trial and error required with the one size fits all approach leads to a lot of extra plastic (and other non-degradable materials) in the landfills.
Unfortunately, the landfills are already packed full, and the emissions that come from them can have a massively negative impact on the climate.
We wanted to combat that as best we can, which is another reason that we believe that personalized skin care routines are the wave of the future. When you have skin care products created specifically for you, in containers made from recyclable materials, you’re helping to reduce your environmental impact on the world. Every little bit counts, after all!
Environmental impact is a large part of why we decided to use vegan ingredients in our skin care products, as well. You don’t have to live a plant-based lifestyle to be able to appreciate how much of an impact making a few small changes can make.
What Type of Personalized Skin Care Routines Do We Offer?
All of our routines start with a skin assessment, full of questions for you to answer regarding not just how you feel like your skin looks, but what your skin care goals are (such as evening out uneven skin tone), the history of your skin, any allergies you may have or medications you may take, and what your lifestyle is (do you face mask once a week, or are you a workaholic who won’t give herself a break?).
Each of these factors plays directly into what your skin needs to be able to look and feel its best, and we want to know all about you!
We take that information, and using our patented algorithm, create a personalized skin care routine, each with custom formulas, specifically for your unique skin.
We have multiple plans, like The Ritual (which includes a custom cleanser, serum, and moisturizer), so that you can pick how many products you want. But, no matter how many you choose, we use three different elements to create them: a base, ingredients to help support your skin and achieve your skin goals, and the percentage of ingredients that will be the most beneficial for you.
We also take into account the type of consistency and texture that you like in your skin care products. Some people prefer a cooling gel feel on their face, while others like a fast-absorbing water based formula.
As long as it works with your goals, we want to listen to what you want — it’s your skin, after all!
Once you’ve gotten through your first month of your personalized skin care routine, we don’t stop there. Your skin changes, and we want to adapt with you. That’s why we ask you to complete a reassessment of your skin every month, and perform an at home Skin Test (that we provide you with for free) to check how your skin is doing, and if your formulas are best suited to support.
We call this our “Formula Feedback Loop,” which helps to tweak and optimize your formula so that it continues to support your skin, month after month. Our easy to perform at home Skin Test looks at the pH, oil level, and moisture level of your skin, which helps to decide what (if any) changes need to be made to your custom formula. You can be assured that we’re working hard to help you live your best skin.
To Sum It All Up
At Atolla, we believe that personalized skin care routines are the future. They are made for your uniquely beautiful skin, are far more conscious than the mass model, and use the freshest ingredients possible.
Instead of standing in front of an overwhelming amount of products and having to waste money on trial and error (which also leads to more plastic in the landfills), spend your money and your time wisely.
You deserve to live your best skin, and we want to help you do it in a way that supports both you and the environment.
