Glycerin is a widely used humectant, which is a category of ingredients used in skincare to oretain moisture. Humectants do this by enhancing the absorption of water, or attracting moisture, from deeper layers of the skin  to the surface of the skin . Glycerin mimics our skin's natural moisturizing factor, and can help to replenish moisture levels as it gets depleted from aging and exposure to environmental stressors or irritants.
