Hyaluronic Acid

An ingredient found naturally in the skin that can improve its ability to stay hydrated. This humectant works by providing an environment where water molecules can bind and be retained in the layers of the skin. This hydration is what provides the skin the appearance of elasticity and plumpness. Hyaluronic acid (HA) has a high turnover rate and rapidly degrades in the body: as we get older, new production of HA slows down and naturally decreases in the skin (especially in the outermost layers), and this effect happens faster with sun damage.

The molecule is too big to be absorbed by the skin when it’s applied in skincare, but by sitting on top of the skin (the epidermis) and drawing out water from the deeper layers of the skin (the dermis), it can help provide the appearance of more moisturized and dewy skin. Help it out by drinking more water, too!
